About us

We, Iris and Sven, live at the B&B with our two kids (as well as two dogs, two cats and a dozen chickens). We moved from Belgium to Vall de Laguar in the summer of 2017 and haven’t regretted the decision for a moment. The air here is lovely and clean which has greatly improved our son’s respiratory problems. We don’t miss the traffic jams and the hectic lifestyle we had in Belgium. The locals have been welcoming and friendly from day one and we love that the local way of life is less materialistic and more community minded.

We love nature and peace, but also company and hospitality. Our goal is to provide a peaceful and comfortable holiday destination to our guests, infused with local flavours.

SUSTAINABILITY

We aim to live and work in an environmentally-friendly and sustainable fashion. On sunny days, our energy is fully supplied by the sun and stored in solar batteries. On average, solar energy provides 80 to 90% of our annual electricity usage. We have a back-up generator, but limit its usage as much as possible.

Town sewerage is not available where we live, but our state of the art septic tank reduces all wastage to clean water for our plants. We try to eliminate the use of chemicals by using steam for cleaning and an eco-egg for washing. We only use biodegradable products.

Our chickens recycle food scraps and provide fresh eggs. We use fresh herbs from our garden and are experimenting with an organic vegetable garden. We have planted many fruit and olive trees over the past few years, but they will need some time to grow before they start producing fruit. Once they do, we will use our crop to make fresh juice, jams and olive oils. In the meantime our juice and jams are made from local fruits, our honey is provided by the local beekeeper and all other produce is locally sourced. Our goal is to continue reducing our ecological footprint year by year.
